DepEd Tagum City Christmas Outreach Program
Agbones made up to the Nat'l. Tagis Talino Finals “Joan Agbones of La Filipina NHS together with the Governor of Batangas Hon. Vilma Santos-Recto and the rest of the RO XI delegates, Dr. Chanette Cadiente and Mrs. Mayumi Pinzon" Tagum City High School student, Joan Agbones from La Filipina National High School was able to reach up to the finals during the Championship round of the Pambansang Tagisan ng Talino for Secondary Level on August 26 – 29, 2007 in Batangas Province. Agbones was able to forward to the final round after passing series of elimination from the quiz, to the essay writing and extemporaneous talking. Agbones was ranked Third during the Regional Tagis Talino and ranked Fourth Place in the national competition. “This is a good avenue for the students to learn the craft on oral communication,” said by Vivencia Dumdum, Trainer / Coach of Agbones. Mrs. Mayumi Pinzon, ES I Filipino expressed her congratulatory message to Agbones for making it up the finals. Tagum LGU backs 17 preschool classes Hurray for Tagum LGU! Tagum City Division has opened 17 Kindergarten classes last June 6, 2007 after the Local Government of Tagum appropriated funds for the salary of teachers and the provision of preschool books. Such move is in preparation for the institutionalization of preschool education in the public schools. LGU of Tagum has purchased a total of 2,079 books ( English Reading Power, Numeracy Power for Preschool and Reading Readiness) for the 17 preschool classes situated in Col. Saludares ES, Nueva Fuerza ES, Pandapan ES, New Balamban ES, San Agustin ES, Babanganan ES, Bincungan ES, Busaon ES, Liboganon ES, Luis Lina ES, Herculina Edig ES, Madaum ES, Pagsabangan ES, Cabugan ES, San Isidro ES, Rizal II ES, and La Filipina ES. Likewise, the LGU of Tagum also subsidized all the preschool teachers training and other enhancement program especially on beginning reading and other necessary workshops for the latter to provide the best education for the children “We are very thankful to our City Mayor Rey T. Uy for the support given to the identified 17 preschool classes,” shared by Mrs. Mayumi M. Visayan Village, Tagum City - Tapping the different stakeholders of the school for its drive to provide medical – dental care, the Visayan Village Central Elem. School launched Expanded Universal Medical – Dental Check – Up and Adopt A – School Program last October 11, 2007 at the School Gymnasium. While this initiative brings two – way processes between the school and its linkages, said program was first - ever to launch among the schools in this division, which was witnessed by more than 20 elementary and high school principals. Division Head Nurse Marydee Canoy discussed the rationale behind the medical – dental program by emphasizing that the DepED’s thrust is to honor children’s health in order they can participate actively in their academic pursuits, as part of the School Based – Management implementation. Dr. Leoncio Hadji. Division Adopt A – School Coordinator justified the importance of stakeholders/ school partners in the realization of the school development plan. Dr. Hadji further enjoined other NGOs to mobilize projects and programs in school as their community advocacy. NGO partners/ stakeholders took an oath to the challenge to Adopt A – School Program as the pledge of commitment was done by Dr. Hadji. OIC Barangay Captain Ronald Eliot assured to give full support and assistance for the school. This was evident through counterparting his significant projects to the school. Meanwhile, Schools Division Superintendent Nenita E. Lumaad represented by Schools Division Assistant Superintendent Jose Baldonado, Jr., noted the school’s effort in conducting said program for the noble cause. “It took strong leadership to build forces with the stakeholders in order to address the pivotal problem of the school, which is the health,” Baldonado futher said. Highlighted the said program was the actual toothbrushing; medical – dental check – up; and feeding. Medicines were provided to those who requested it. Said medicines came from the barangay office. Other present also were the medical team from the LGU of Tagum City led by Dr. Roy Albano, Medical students from North Davao College, Medical Team from the DepEd, PTCA Officers and members, Barangay Officials of Barangay Visayan Village; and NGO partners, Mr. and Mrs. Rey Perez, Treasure our Youth Movement Founder, and among others.
2 Tagum HS Rondalla to play at CCP Gaining a slot for the 2007 National Music Competition for Young Artists (NAMCYA) at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) in Pasay City on November 20 – 25, 2007 are the 2 Rondalla Teams from Tagum City Division. The rondalla group of Tagum City National Comprehensive High School (TCNCHS) SPA and the La Filipina National High School (LFNHS) were adjudged as national qualifiers after they have competed in the first level Regional NAMCYA Competition held at Cagayan de Oro City Central Elementary School last September 1 – 16, 2007. The trainers of the two teams were Lorna Mendoza of TCNCHS SPA and Mr. Marlon Saga of LFNHS. “Our Tagum City Division together with the Local Government Unit headed by Mayor Rey T. Uy tried our best to give the players all they need,” said Ms. Jeselyn B. Dela Cuesta, ES I MAPEH. “So we also expect them to give their best especially during the forthcoming national showdown at CCP.” Tagum PTCA Federation, City Meet up in November For the first time that Tagum PTCA Federation Celebration and the DepEd City Meet will be done simultaneously on November 14 – 16, 2007 at Tagum Freedom Park, Tagum City. The holding of this back-to-back showdown of sports enthusiasts and display of talents in Drum and Bugle Corps (DBC) and Brass Band is very much appreciated by Nenita E. Lumaad, Schools Division Superintendent of Tagum City Division. “We have set it this way so as to make our celebration festive and as well as maximize our time doing the usual sports competitions and the battle of DBC instruments,” expressed by Ms. Jeselyn B. Dela Cuesta, ES I in MAPEH. “Besides saving time, money and effort of going out of the school, this is also our way of helping DepEd in its advocacy of increasing the contact hours of teachers with their students,” added Ms. Edna J. Quilario, President of the PTCA Federation. Tagum City Mayor Rey T. Uy and the members of the Tagum City Council approved to provide the cash prizes for the Champion of P 50,000; First Runner up of 30,000; and Second Runner Up of 20,000 in each category. There will be consolation prizes for non-winning entries in the amount of 5,000. Tagum City Division launches E-UMDC Tagum City Division through its Adopt-A-School Program(ASP) and Medical Services launched the Expanded Universal Medical and Dental Check-up at Visayan Village Central Elementary School on October 11, 2007. ASP of Tagum was able to seek the approval of the following sponsors for free medical check-up and dental services to school children in Tagum, namely Rotary Club of Tagum North, Rotary Club of Golden LACES, Kami Dabaonon Foundation, Mason – Davao del Norte Chapter, BABALIKAT, CIVICOM, LIONS Club, PTCA Federation, Retired Teachers, Tagum Cooperative, PTCA of Magugpo Pilot Central, DANECO, NCCC Mall, PPMC Barangay Council of Magdum, San Isidro and Madaum, St. Mary’s College, Ms. Jennifer Haos, Engr. Luisito Casas, Mrs. Lani Maug, Mrs. Emelita Alvarez, Mrs. Yolanda Agustin, Mr. Alberto Ado, Mr. Peter Doliman, SPO4 Ricardo Moral, Dr. Joel Padoran, Mr. Allan Templa, Alumni of Jose Tuazon Jr. Memorial NHS, Philippine Dental Society, and other Medical Teams working in Tagum. “All schools will be visited by our medical and dental team for this school year 2007 – 2008 for free check-up and dental services,” shared by Mr. Leoncio B.
